What’s different…Women’s National Volleyball Team, Week 1 of the 2023 VNL, 4-0, 0 points, 12 lost sets

With Cesar Gonzalez, who assisted Stefano Labarini at the Tokyo Olympics, as the new head coach and Park “Clutch Park” Jung-ah, 30, as captain, the results have been disastrous. The ‘Cesaros’ have lost 12 matches in the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Nations League (VNL). They also went 1-4 at the World Championships.

The desperate women’s team wanted to show that this year would be different, so they moved into the Jincheon Athletes’ Village early after the 2022-2023 V-League and spent more than a month training together.토토사이트

But the result is a similar mood to last year. Nothing has changed. In the final match of Week 1 of the 2023 VNL on 4 April at the Antalya Sports Hall in Antalya, Turkiye, the team lost 0-3 in straight sets against Thailand. They lost all four matches in Week 1 in Turkuye and failed to win a single set while dropping 12. Of the 16 nations competing in the VNL, only two – South Korea and Croatia – did not win a set in Week 1. South Korea finished Week 1 in 15th place, ahead of Croatia in points scored.

We were out-blocked 5-13 by similarly-sized Thailand, even though we were out-hit and out-strength by the more physically imposing Turkiye, Canada, and the USA. While the Thais were able to overcome their height disadvantage with a variety of tactics, such as fast-ball and centre-back attacks, and a tight defence, the Koreans were unable to show any colour in terms of tactics.

Many have criticised Cesar’s lack of responsibility for the women’s volleyball team’s performance. César, who is also the coach of BAKIFBANK in the Turkic League, did not attend the national training camp due to his club’s schedule. Newly appointed coach Han Yumi and advisor Kim Yeon-kyung took charge of the players’ training. Although Cesar and Coach Han had daily meetings via video call to give instructions, it was difficult for Cesar to check on the players and devise different tactics without seeing them in person.

With this win, Cesar’s women’s volleyball team now has a record of 1-20. Desperate for a first VNL win, Korea will now travel to Brazil to face Brazil, Japan, Croatia and Germany.
