Runners stranded + 2G multi-hit performance by Kim Ha-Sung not enough to prevent SD loss

San Diego Padres outfielder Ha-Sung Kim turned in a complete game performance on offense.

Kim batted eighth and played second base in the Padres’ 2023 Major League Baseball game against the Tampa Bay Rays at Petco Park in San Diego, California, on Sunday, recording a multi-hit performance.

Kim first made his presence felt on defense, as he saved his team from a run in the fifth inning.

With the bases loaded, he fielded a ball hit by Yandy Diaz and threw to third baseman Manny Machado to catch Jose Ciri heading straight for third. Machado made the catch, erasing the runner in scoring position.

Kim also came up big at the plate in the game’s final at-bat.

In the seventh inning, he crushed an 84.9-mph splitter from Zack Littell to center field, and in the ninth inning, he sent a 94.8-mph sinkerball from Shawn Armstrong into the right field seats for his second straight multi-hit game.

Despite Kim’s performance, San Diego fell to Tampa Bay 2-6.
