The KBO held the opening ceremony of the ‘2023 KBO DREAM CUP Independent Baseball Tournament’ at the KBO Baseball Centre in Hwaksung on the 7th.

KBO President Heo Gu-yeon, Hwaseong County Governor Kim Myung-ki, and Hwaseong County Council Chairman Kim Young-sook attended the opening ceremony, while KBO Talent Donation Committee member Kim Yong-dal and KBO President Jang Jong-hoon also visited the stadium to encourage the independent baseball teams. Kim Myung-ki and Kim Young-sook led the opening ceremony and batting practice.
In addition, scouts from eight professional teams visited the Hwaksung KBO Baseball Centre to watch the games and closely analyse the skills of the independent baseball teams.
A total of 149 players participated in the tournament, including 29 professional players. Choi Soo-hyun of the Yeoncheon Miracle took the oath as the team’s representative, pledging to “compete with justice and fairness based on sportsmanship”.
In the opening game, Gapyeong Wales won 4-1 against the Pocheon Monsters, thanks to Jin Hyun-woo’s five-inning, eight-hit shutout in relief and the combined two-hit multi-hit performances of Park Seung-hwan and Won Ju-ho.
In the next game, the Yeoncheon Miracles defeated the Paju Challengers 7-5 in a nail-biter, led by Choi Soo-hyun, who went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.
The Seongnam Magpies won 7-3 against the Suwon Pineyears thanks to a six-inning, one-run quality start from starter Park Seung-soo and an even performance from the bats.
