Kang Yoo-rim (26, 175cm) was surprised when she was named as a role model.
On the 29th, the first day of the ‘2023 Dreams Come True Camp’ hosted by Samsung Life Insurance in Yongin was held at the Samsung Training Centre (STC). The camp, which was held for the first time in four years since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, saw Samsung Life athletes from Hyosung Girls’ High School, Bundang Business High School, and Sookmyung Girls’ High School conduct joint training and mentoring. While all of the Samsung Life players participated except for the rehabilitation team, main member Kang Yoo-rim also had a great time with the future juniors.
After the event, Kang Yoo-rim said, “There’s quite a big age difference between the high school students now. I’m 10 years older than my first-year friend. I tried to show them around as if they were my younger siblings, and I tried to make them feel comfortable because they seemed to feel awkward. The centre’s facilities are very good, so I told them what’s good about it,” he said.
“It brings back a lot of memories. When I was in high school, I cut my hair short and exercised without thinking about it. I think I was just going around without thinking about it. I wore all the same clothes as my friends now,” she laughed.
Jump Ball conducted video interviews with the captains of Hyosung Girls’ High School, Bundang Business School, and Sookmyung Girls’ High School. Among them, third-year Hyosung Girls’ High School captain Kim Jong-yeon and third-year Bundang Business School captain Byun Ha-jung cited Kang Yoo-rim as a role model and a player they miss.
“When I heard the story earlier, I was surprised. I actually didn’t watch many WKBL games when I was in high school. But it was interesting to hear that my friends nowadays watch it regularly. Before, if someone asked me who my role model was, I would just tell them, but now they’ve chosen me as their role model. I’m proud and feel like I need to work harder.” Says Kang Yoo-rim.토토사이트
The ‘2023 Dreams Come True Camp’ will continue until the 31st of this month. There will be three days of joint training and an outing to Everland on the afternoon of the 30th. The camp will conclude with a graduation ceremony on the 31st.
“Actually, I didn’t want to play sports when I was in high school,” said Kang Yoo-rim. So I want my friends to enjoy it a lot. I think people who have fun can do better. It’s natural to work hard, but I want them to play basketball as if they were playing,” he said, leaving a word of advice for the juniors.
