Starting pitcher Ariel Furado won his 5th win (7th loss) of the season with a near-complete pitch. He pitched 8⅔ innings with 116 pitches, 7 hits, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts and 2 runs. Lim Chang-min was responsible for one remaining out count and kept the victory.
In the other lineup, Kim Hye-sung’s performance was outstanding. It was the first-class contributor to attacking Doosan starting pitcher Brandon Waddell. Kim Hye-seong started as the second batter and second baseman and played an active role with 3 hits (1 home run), 1 RBI and 2 runs in 4 at-bats. Third hitter Lee Jeong-hoo swung a hard hit with 3 hits in 4 at-bats, and 4th hitter Lee Hyeong-jong recorded 2 hits in 3 at-bats, 1 walk and 2 RBIs, including the final hit.
Kiwoom coach Hong Won-gi praised him, saying, “Hurado missed the complete pitch, but he put his whole body into a counterattack. He played his role perfectly while showing good chemistry with Lee Ji-young.”
He added, “In the offense, Lee Hyung-jong’s two RBIs and a timely hit in the 3rd inning took the win, and Kim Hye-seong’s home run and Lee Won-seok’s timely hit in the 8th inning drove the wedge.”
Kiwoom decorated the game as a farewell match against Eric Yokishi, a foreign pitcher who was released due to an injury. As a long-lived foreign player who has been with us for 5 years from 2019 to this year, we prepared a special event. Yokishi held a fan signing event and had time to say goodbye to fans. Prior to the game, Koh Hyung-wook, general manager of Kiwoom, delivered a plaque of appreciation, and coach Hong and Lee Jung-hoo presented a photo frame and a bouquet of flowers with the team’s signature. After the victory, Yokishi spent another time greeting the fans on the podium.
Coach Hong said, “It is meaningful that I gave Yokishi a gift of victory as he leaves for the United States after the farewell ceremony today (24th).
