This season, with the first competition of the season scheduled in Haenam in March, in the jump ball, we met the players who are expected to be active in each school in the south high school this season.
The 23rd main character is Jung Hyeon-seok (185cm, G, F) of Inheon High School.
Jung Hyeon-seok has been a promising player since elementary school. However, he went through ups and downs after entering middle school, and his growth rate was rather slow. After entering high school, he accelerated his skills development under the training of coach Shin Jong-seok. Last season, he played 15 games and played 35 minutes on the court, averaging 13.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists. His stable ball handling and one-on-one ability are at a high level, but the part that is biased when breaking through attacks is evaluated as needing improvement.
Coach Shin Jong-seok of Inheon High School said, “As captain this season, I feel more responsible. He also shows that he is trying to lead by example. It seems that his shooting, weight, and speed have also improved compared to last season.”
Following this, Coach Shin said, “Because he is left-handed, he tends to insist on breaking through to the left. My opponent is well aware of that, so I am practicing breaking through to the right. When it is possible to break through in both directions, the play or application derived from it is still insufficient.”
The key to Jung Hyeon-seok, who is equipped with a sense of responsibility as a leader, is his physical condition.
Coach Shin also said, “I have the most game experience (in the team). However, he had a small injury, so I hope he will finish the season well by taking good care of his body.”
Jeong Hyeon-seok, who is preparing for this season with a more mature mindset, said, “We focused on physical training in Jeju Island and practice games in Gyeongju. He is not tall, but he is focusing on strengthening his muscles to run fast,” he told the process of preparing for the season.
Continuing, he said, “As a leader, when his juniors don’t play well, you have to keep them mental and coordinate the game. I’m worried because I’ve been hurt a lot, but it’s not a big injury, so I want to come back and help the team as much as possible.”
Finally, Jung Hyun-seok said, “My goal for this season is to reach the quarterfinals or higher. The team’s performance has been poor in recent years, but I want Inheon High School to achieve the best results before I graduate from high school. (If possible) I would like to receive an individual award by finishing in third place or higher.”
