In the bottom of the second inning, Bae drew a walk in his first at-bat and advanced to second on the next batter’s single by Mark Matthias. He then made a bold attempt to steal third base and was safe.

With his second straight stolen base, Bae increased his season total to 18 and remained second in the National League in stolen bases. While Bae stole third, Matias, who was on first base, stole second to complete the double steal. However, Bae was unable to reach home on the ensuing at-bat.

After striking out in consecutive at-bats in the fourth and sixth innings, Bae led off the eighth with an infield single to shortstop with the score tied 4-4. One out later, he advanced to third on Austin Hedges’ single to left field and came home on Andrew McCutchen’s sacrifice fly. It was the game-winning run for Pittsburgh.

Bae also impressed defensively with a super catch. Trailing 1-3 in the top of the sixth inning, he received a huge ovation when he snagged Jason Peterson’s mid-wall double off the fence.

After scoring the winning run in the bottom of the eighth, Pittsburgh overcame a runner on first and third in the top of the ninth to beat Oakland 5-4 and extend its winning streak to six games.
